It's one of those uniquely San Diego celebrations, looked forward to by music lovers all year. The opening night of the Spreckels Organ Society's Summer International Organ Festival once again brought the focus of the music world to our beloved Balboa Park and the historic Spreckels Organ, the largest outdoor organ in the United States. Music lovers of all shapes and sizes - some with furry coats and leashes - were drawn before the show to the the traditional Bach's Supper, savoring freshly grilled tacos by La Taquiza, the festive sounds of mariachi and seating under the historic colonnades of the Spreckels Organ Pavilion. At 7:30 pm as the sun ducked under a blanket of fog, and the 100's of lights on the pavilion twinkled, Robert Plimpton took the stage for a free concert enjoyed by close to 2,000 San Diegans and visitors to the City. Search the world if you like. It just doesn't happen like this anywhere else.
